Buffalo Outdoor Center is the premier outfitter and log cabin resort on the pristine upper Buffalo National River. Hidden in the rugged Ozark Mountains of Ponca, Arkansas, our resort is located in one of America’s most scenic and undiscovered places.
The Buffalo National River, designated as America’s first national river by Congress in 1972, is home to some of the finest canoeing and hiking in mid-America. Canoe season occurs March through June, while hiking can be enjoyed year-round. Known for its crystal-clear waters flowing through steep mountainous country, the Buffalo teems with tall bluffs, waterfalls, pioneer homesteads, Native American bluff shelters, beautiful wildflowers, and watchable wildlife, including herds of elk and, in winter, a growing number of trumpeter swans. You’ll find the tallest waterfall and the tallest bluff between the Rockies and the Appalachians located here, both easily accessible by hiking trail.
The Buffalo is typically a self-guided Class I float, suitable for just about any paddler, although higher water levels can make it a rollicking Class II adventure for experienced boaters. For your convenience, BOC offers canoe, kayak, and raft rental, as well as vehicle shuttle services.
